”46 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.” —Mark 10:46-52 (ESV)
“Take heart” when the world crushes you to the ground. When your job sucks and your marriage is rough and people all around you continue to pile up their expectations upon your back. Take heart when all around you no one cares that you are dying inside because of a secret hurt or an obsession that you cannot shake. Take heart when IT hits the fan in your life and there’s nothing you can do but watch the whole thing fall apart. Take heart…
In spite of it all, “Get up; he is calling you.”
And when Jesus calls, there’s a reason for it and you can bet it’s a good one. The bible tells us that God knows each step of each foot before a one of them took place. Even the sparrows are numbered in their millions upon millions across the world. And when one of them falls he knows it. He knows what’s going on in your life, in fact it’s not a bit of a surprise. Chances are, he is wanting to get your attention so things happen to make you look for him.
Are you remotely interested that God may want to reveal himself to you? Do you think those nice Baptists came by your place on accident? Do you think you found a bible in the seat cushion for no reason?
He is calling You.
And if he did indeed create all that there is just by speaking shouldn’t we pay attention to his Word today?
How many opportunities do you get to know someone like that? Take the chance. Repent and turn from your blindness and follow Jesus on the way like Bartimaeus did and countless others. It’s not something you will ever regret.
I haven’t, in spite of all that has happened since I have never regretted it.
